On Monday April 29^th, the Kearsarge Regional School District will officially become a recycling district.Our vision is to make recycling part of our learning culture.A recycling team has been developed consisting of representatives from each of our schools.The team has been working hard to create and send a clear and consistent message to the students, faculty, and staff.Educational programs are being introduced to the students teaching them about the importance of sustainability.This really needs to be a team effort by all of us here in the District.

The process of recycling has become much easier by utilizing a new system of collection that is referred to as "single stream" or "zero sort" recycling.This new collection process allows us to collect cardboard/paper, plastic, glass, and metal into one receptacle.The days of having to sort glass by color and maintain separate collection bins for paper, glass, plastic, and metal are now in the past.The collected items are then trucked to a material recycling facility where they are mechanically separated and packaged for re-sale to market.Basically, our waste becomes a resource!There is no additional cost to recycle.There is, however, an opportunity for savings.This is an important milestone here in the Kearsarge District as we learn and discover opportunities to make our world a better.With sustainability we have the capacity to endure.
